I'm still here! Don't worry :) Things have been a little bit hectic but hopefully everything will calm down now. The wedding is over, it went really well and my sister was so beautiful on her big day. Am very weary tonight! My sister's wedding is now just 4 weeks away and although i have the dress, i didn't have any shoes. Having scoured York & Leeds and found nothing, the last option was Manchester. So today Grandad and I went off on an adventure! I've only been there twice before so i'm very surprised i didn't get lost. It's about 90 minutes away on the train so not far to travel but as it's the summer holidays here, the trains were busy :(

Had a successful trip - am now the proud owner of an expensive pair of shoes, perfect for the wedding - i'll probably never wear them again though! Here's hoping my sister likes them otherwise we're in trouble!

It was Dylan's 8th birthday yesterday, so we had the traditional birthday party and a special guest - Mr Rowley from across the road! I took loads of pics which i'll try and put up tomorrow - i've run out of credit on my phone so until i top it up tomorrow, i can't send anymore.

Because of the Rheumatoid Arthritis, Occupational Therapists came to pay a visit last year to see if they could help out with anything i needed round the house. In their infinite wisdom, they decided i really, really needed a seat that raised the height of the toilet.

It's been a great investment as you can see :)

Just so you don't get bored looking at pics of Bod and Dylan, i though you'd like to see this photo of CC doing his Sleeping Beauty impression. This cat can sleep for Britain, and normally on something you want like the newspaper, as seen here. If there's a paper or a magazine lying around, CC will find it and go to sleep on it - for hours! I've only just got round to reading the Sunday papers and it's almost midnight.

Am feeling a bit out of sorts tonight - i read something on a blog that upset me and i don't why i've let it. This person was making a joke out of something that's quite personal to me, and i suppose in a way it annoyed me that they obviously take everything for granted. I don't know what i'm trying to say, i just wanted to say something - if you know what i mean. Anyway, it's getting late, i'm tired and in pain - could have something to with the above - so i shall go to bed and hopefully wake up in a better frame of mind.

Just when i was saying don't expect many pictures of Dylan, look who came sauntering through the back door :) I snapped this just as he'd finished scoffing a nice bowl of duck & heart cat food - yum, sounds lovely!
Dylan says please excuse the pink bowl but Grandad put the food in Bod's princess bowl and not in Dylan's manly bowl. He likes to think he's a tough guy but as he gets older, he's learning to love his cuddles. Looking pretty good for a kitty diagnosed with a serious heart condition 3 months ago. He's pretty distinctive looking because although his dad was a plain old moggy, his mum was a Siamese - he's even got that baby sounding cry that Siamese have!

Pics of Dyl may be short on the ground as we don't see him very often - he seems to prefer the company of Rowley across the road - and when we do see him, he's just not interested in sitting still for the camera!

Spent all day yesterday reading my lovely new books. I managed to finish the Kathy Reichs - excellent, and much better than Patricia Cornwell - and am halfway through the Trudi Canavan, which is the second book of her new trilogy, quite good so far but i'm having trouble remembering what happened in the first book as i read it a few months ago.

Well, now my work of boring you all to tears with pictures of the furry Princess is done i'm off back to my book. Hope you're all having a fab weekend :)

First up, another pic of Bod posing for her public :) And a story! Now i've been reminded about the monitor incident when Mr & Mrs Rat were visiting - and yep, it scared the crap out of me too - i'll tell you just how particular and demanding this girl is. Now i'm using the laptop, obviously the tower, keyboard and monitor got moved off the desk. Bod was not happy about this. Apart from the desk, the top of the monitor is her favorite place to sleep. Imagine her disgust when she realised the monitor had gone. To make up for it, she decided she would sprawl across the laptop, not good. On the few occasions she's done that, she has discovered more shortcuts than i knew existed! So, just to please a cat, we've put the monitor back on the desk. Her favorite hobby when sleeping on the monitor is freestyle diving onto the desk, resulting in a lot of jumping from the humans in the house - especially when watching scary movies :)

Now on to the reason why i'm happy - i got a big box of shiny new books from Amazon this morning!!

Yet another pic of my favorite girl :) I have stacks of pictures of her taken over the last 3 months as she adores having her photo taken. Her favorite place to sleep/lie is on my desk and for some reason she always seems to end up on her back staring up. This one was taken while she was snoozing - not something she does often, she gets by on very little sleep for a cat - and making very cute little snoring noises!

hopefully on a permanent basis! Can't get used to the laptop - considering i've had it since April, i think this is only the third or fourth time i have actually got my hands on it. A., the lovely bloke that he is, commandeered it while he was galavanting round the country even though he knew i was computerless. He's been in Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham and London for the last 2 months so i've barely seen him. This will probably sound awful but i've not missed him much and when i do see him he drives me mad, he sounds like he's swallowed a trendy management handbook and mutters stuff about "investing in his future". Hello? What about our future? I'm starting to think we don't have one.

The last couple of months have been hideous, especially healthwise. It looks like i may be dealing with a completely unexpected health issue, add yet another consultant to the pot! Latest news about my hip replacement is that they're still refusing to put me back on the waiting list until my other issues are sorted. As that could be never, looks like i'll be waiting for the rest of my life!

Cats are all doing well, not enjoying the heat but we have got three fans going so i'm hoping it's helping them. I'm slightly worried about Dylan - since being diagnosed with his heart condition, we've barely seen him. He spends most of his time across the road or elsewhere and it's virtually impossible to give him the pills he has to take. At the moment we're lucky if we see him 3 or 4 times a week. Don't know what to do about that, it's not like we can keep him in.

Will be updating my book journal over at bookwitching shortly - one thing about being computerless for this long is that i've read an awful lot of books!

Completely boring day! Highlight? Going to Tesco to do the shopping and managing to spend £95 - treated myself to some new expensive shampoo, that was the extent of the treat budget. Am trying hard to save as much money as i can so i can at least give Mum & Dad some money towards the laptop.

2 days til they arrive, 9 days til the laptop arrives and 11 days til A goes back to work - he's on holiday.

Just finished watching King Kong - anyone else seen this? I'm not sure whether i liked it or not. Probably didn't help that A huffed & puffed all the way through because he definitely didn't like it.

Updated my book journal finally - didn't realise it had been so long! Can't wait to get the laptop - will make life so much easier - although am more than likely to end up playing Neopets in bed at 3am 'cause i can't sleep :)

The spoiling begins

Just when everything was starting to look a bit better, disaster struck :( The puter crashed last night! Went across the road to see our neighbour with a poorly cat and came back to see 'operating system not found' blazing across the screen!

After much weeping & wailing from me, swearing from A and lots of frantic emailing to Z, we managed to get the thing going again - not sure how long for, but it's going. Before it was up & running again, my mum phoned and of course i told her about the puter - got sympathy 'cause she knows how much i rely on the puter to have contact with the outside world and got told to start saving so i could buy a new one!

Just had a phone call from my dad - he's bought me a laptop!!!!! How lucky am i? My parents are indeed brilliant :) I think they felt so guilty about the fact they're coughing up so much for Clara's wedding that dad thought they should do something for me. Hence the laptop, should be here in about 10 days! I can't wait, although i've never used a laptop before so i'm a bit nervous.

If in the meantime i disappear, it's because this one has finally given up - keep your fingers crossed it keeps going until a week on Wednesday.

I love my parents!

Whilst pootling about reading blogs, i came across a fantastic idea - 101 things to be done in 1001 days! I thought this was fab and certainly worth doing - i wish i could remember where i saw it so you could all go and look.

The idea is to make a list of 101 things you really want to do - anything from buying a house or having kids to not eating chocolate for a week or learning a new language. Think i'm going to do this - great incentive to get some stuff sorted in my life!

The wedding

Seeing as this will be a big part of what i'm blogging about until the nightmare is over, i'll tell you all about it - you can share my stress!

My sister, C and her beloved M are getting married in September at a fancy-schmancy private club in central London - there's going to be about 100 guests, most of which will be M's family as our family is tiny. I have been commanded to be chief bridesmaid/witness and therefore get slightly more dressed up than i was planning on. C has her dress already, well she's ordered it from Canada, and it should be here in June - plenty of time if there needs to be any alterations. She had picked out a dress for me - see one of my earlier posts for the description - but has decided she doesn't like it. So, mother and i will be trawling the streets of York trying to find something that will pass her exceedingly high expectations. Mother is bringing her camera and we'll take pics of every dress we find, so C can say yes or no to colour/style etc. etc.

The club is also a hotel so we'll be staying there for the weekend of the wedding - am definitely looking forward to a weekend of luxury. I'll also be getting my hair and make-up done, yikes! Last time i wore make-up was at my own wedding back in 1995, which i slapped on myself (got married on the cheap, in a rush and all for about £150 - the most memorable thing about my wedding/marriage was my divorce! )

Will keep you posted about our progress - aren't you all just salivating at the prospect?!

I'm alive

Just a quick note to say i'm back. Things haven't been too rosy around here for a while - i didn't feel up to being online much and then we had an incident with a cat & a keyboard.
A's dad unfortunately passed away a couple of days after i last posted. Needless to say, things have been tough and there are a few strange things going on.
On a good note my parents are coming up for a visit next week, for six days, so i'm expecting to be spoilt rotten :) Haven't seen them since September so am looking forward to it, will be going shopping for the bridesmaid dress for the wedding - my poor little sister is going into 'bride meltdown'.

Mini update

A's dad is still the same - they've had to sedate him because he was becoming very agitated. They're also moving him into a private room tonight - at the moment he's in a ward with 3 other people which 'evilstepmotherfromhell' has been moaning about. While he's like this, there's no point visiting (or for me, hanging around in the relatives room) as he's asleep all the time. Grandad and A seem to be holding up okay, although when A found out last night that his dad had been sedated, he got upset and reached for the bottle. I'm getting seriously worried about this, it seems every time there's a bit of news, this is his automatic reaction. Last night it was the bottle of rum i bought Grandad for Christmas, i wonder what it will be tonight :(

On a lighter note, Grandad and i are off out - i'm going to do some much needed retail therapy and treat Grandad to lunch! Also got a v. important letter to post to someone whose name begins with V!!! It arrived this morning V!!!! It's fab, thank you so much :) Am looking forward to finally being able to win a game of TP!

Jack 8.03.96 - 5.03.06

Today is Jack and Spud's birthday - they are/would have been 10. Spud is wandering around looking for his brother, he's very confused as to why he can't find Jack. We are having a kitty cat party to celebrate Spud reaching 10 and to remember Jack - even Rowley from across the road is coming!
Probably sounds really daft but i'm sure the cats are grieving - so we thought a day spoiling them would be good :)

Life sucks - a very long update

Yes, it's me :) I have returned from the wilderness, am no longer MIA and am so glad the last 10 days are over!
Let's backtrack to the beginning of last week where everything started going downhill.
Tuesday - doctors, he got blood the first time! Then informed me the hearing in my right ear is definitely deteriorating, i now have a referral to ENT. Great, another consultant to add to the evergrowing list!
Wednesday - a phone call from A sounding very panicked. His step-mother called to say his dad was in the hospital and he was dying. We all dash to the hospital - spend hours there. He has liver failure, A's dad is an alcoholic, this is why i worry about A drinking.
Thursday - hospital for me, no iron infusion again! Why? Because my blood pressure is high (hardly surprising), my temperature is high and my white blood cell count is elevated with no explanation. This means that because i possibly have an infection i can't be in A's dad's room. I spend hours in the relative's room while they visit.
Friday - hospital, me in the relative's room for hours while everyone else hovers around. Am getting plenty of books read, including Cell - will update bookwitching as soon as. A is starting to fall apart and has said he's not going to the hospital again - he can't face it. Instead, he's in the pub, drinking.
Saturday - A in the pub, Grandad at the hospital, me at the vets and then the hospital. Jack's breathing got worse again so a neighbour took us down to the vets who diagnoses pneumonia, gives him a steroid/antibiotic jab and says to bring him back in 4 days. He has a good night, ate loads, breathing was better and spent the night on the bed with Grandad.
Sunday - the worst day. Jack seemed okay first thing in the morning so Grandad and i are getting ready to go to the hospital. Notice Jack seems to be having trouble breathing, within 10 minutes he's really struggling and his gums are starting to look blue. Dash across the road to see if neighbour can take us to vets. Jack is worse, by now his tongue is blue. Get to the vets, he's on my lap and at 2.15pm UK time, Jack passes away. It turns out he may have had a tumor which burst stopping his heart. He wouldn't have felt a thing, his little heart would have just stopped. We're all devastated, i seem to be crying every 5 minutes and obsessively checking the other cats.
As of today, there is no change in A's dad's condition. They put a feeding tube down yesterday and muttered something about him maybe hanging on for weeks or even months like this unless his kidneys start to fail too, of which there is a definite possibility. So, we're in limbo, going back and forth to the hospital and trying to get A through this. He went back to work today - they gave him a week off - and am hoping that this will help. He is still refusing to visit his dad but i have no clue what to do about this.
So this is why i've not been online - i've just not had time and to be honest, i just haven't felt like it. Today is the first day we haven't spent at the hospital and i'm trying to make the most of it. Hope you guys are all okay :) Sorry this was so long!

I got sucked into the void where time goes 27 times as fast as normal!! I'm reading a couple of great books which i'll stick up on bookwitching as soon as i'm done. I added a few more books from this month on there last night and i also spent a couple of hours browsing the library website so i now have 11 books to pick up in the next couple of days!

Most of my time seems to have been wasted on eBay over the last couple of days buying completely unnecessary stuff, like paper! It's pretty paper but i'm sure i really don't need it - it's just my latest obsession :)

Spud now has his own page on Catster - i'll post the link later, when i can find it!

Going to the dreaded doctors tomorrow, i'm sure he's going to try sticking a needle in me and the bruises from last week haven't even faded yet. Still, if he has success, it'll get a certain nurse off my case at YDH.

Worn out

The problem with being a hoarder is that sooner or later, it gets out of control! I've spent today chucking things out - so far i've filled two black bags and there's plenty more to do. I keep finding things i thought i'd lost, i've even uncovered some books i never realised i had!!

I am so losing track of time - i swear this week has been shorter than usual! Will post the book journal link tomorrow - promise :)
Was at the hospital again today for iron infusion no. 3 - it did not go well. After five attempts at finding a vein and a lot of 'ouches' and 'eeeks', they gave up. I have to go the ward next Thursday so a doctor can do it and if need be, use a vein in my foot :( Not happy, and very sore - i have a bruise for every attempt and a headache from stressing about.
Am off to console myself with an early night and a good book!

Sorry for disappearing without notice! And thank you all for worrying! Things have been chaotic round here! My computer/internet connection has been playing up - rather than thumping the 'puter i turned it off and left it to its own devices :) It seems to have done the trick though so fingers crossed it's all back to normal!

I ended up going for the iron infusion i missed on Friday today instead, which means i have to have two of the awful things this week! It wasn't too bad today though, didn't feel as sick afterwards and the bruise on my hand is very pretty :)

Have also been trying to get A ready for his orientation trip to Aberdeen - which was just cancelled at the last minute! For anyone that doesn't know, A is moving to Aberdeen sometime in the next four weeks, without me! He got promoted at work and offered a couple of choices, he chose Aberdeen! So, we're doing the long distance thing. This is cool though, we've done it before and it works for us. I'll be spending a week up there each month and he's going to try for one weekend a month back down here. I'm happy though, it means i get to stay with the cats, i don't lose my internet and someone is here to keep an eye on Grandad - who , unbelievably, turns 80 in October!

And yes, i've been doing lots of reading - my total for the month so far is 19 books, better than last month but still not quite my usual. If you all promise faithfully not to laugh at my poor reviews, i'll post the link to my book journal, but you have to promise first :)

Off to watch Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit which A brought home for me today, along with Lady and the Tramp (complete with cuddly version of Lady), Bewitched and Spirited Away!

What a day!

I was meant to be at the hospital today for iron infusion no. 2 but it all went a bit pear-shaped and i ended up not being able to get there! While secretly being quite pleased about this, it means i've got an extra week tagged on at the end because of missing today :(

I made up for the disappointment *said in extreme sarcastic tone* by dragging Grandad to the library :) Here's what i came home with - and i tried something new this week as well! Along with the books i'd reserved i went along the shelves and just picked up a couple of completely random choices - here's hoping they don't turn out to be rubbish.

To end the day on a good note A came home from work with a free xbox 360 and 2 free games - Call of Duty 2 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted!!! Yay!!!!

Sniff

I'm still snotty :( And i've had the sinus headache from hel! I'm taking plenty of vitamin C and getting lots of rest but this is turning into a full-blown cold. I'm at the hospital tomorrow for iron infusion no. 2 - am hoping this cold doesn't make the side-effects any worse.

Spud is doing a lot better - he hasn't been sick for nearly 2 days now. We gave the vet a ring anyway and we're going to take him in next week for a checkup, we just won't tell him :) Normally he just plods around but mention v-e-t in front of him and he's faster than a Greyhound!

I actually gave up on a book today too - i belong to a historical fiction reading group and they're reading The First Man in Rome by Colleen McCullough. At 1032 pages it's a BIG book but i just can't get into it. I've tried picking it up 3 times now and each time i don't think i've got any further than 150 pages! I made a resolution to actually try and participate in the reading groups i belong to but i think i'll pass on FMiR and try again with the next book, the classic Hound of the Baskervilles, which is one of my favorite Conan Doyle books.

Off to my trusty box of tissues, Ill Met by Moonlight by Mercedes Lackey and a bag of Maltesers!

Poorly Spud

After a lovely weekend with his Aunty Ratty, Spud is not doing well - he's been sick 5 times since yesterday and he's doing his grumbling impression, which means he's not happy :( I think we might be off to the vets yet again with him tomorrow. They know us so well there now that nine times out of ten, we don't even have to make an appointment and just go straight in.

I woke up with a stinking cold this morning too, just when i was thinking i was going to get through the rest of the winter without one! Ha! I should be so lucky!

Danette, i finished Inkheart, it's beautiful - i definitely recommend it, i've added the sequel Inkspell to my evergrowing Amazon wishlist. I've also just finished the first 2 books in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, Storm Front and Fool Moon, about a wizard-cum-private eye in Chicago. The first one came out in 2000 but because we're so lucky in the UK, they were only published here at the end of last year! Another brilliant find and there are 7 or 8 in the series so plenty to keep me going - yes, they're on the wishlist too! They remind me slightly of the Anita Blake books but without all the unnecessary sex scenes, very funny with all sorts of supernatural happenings! Up next, a re-read of book 2, In the Hand of the Goddess, in the Song of the Goddess series by Tamora Pierce.

Just popping in to say i'm still alive :) Had a fabulous time with Ratty and the Man, a nice drive out to Helmsley and a yummy dinner! The cats were just as pleased to see them as i was, especially Spud who is now sulking because his favorite lap has gone again! Bod made me out to be a liar by being extra friendly and even sitting on assorted laps - this cat is scared of her own shadow and runs a mile from strangers, but nope, not this time!

Ratty, Grandad has tea-making doings on permanent standby and expects to see you both again soon :)

Yesterday went fine, i was worrying about nothing! They had problems finding a vein to put the canula in for the infusion and they ended up using the back of my hand - it hurt like %*%*&*! I had a lovely male nurse looking after me though which made it all slightly more bearable *grin*
It left me feeling sick and dizzy afterwards - common side effects - so i spent most of the rest of the day napping and reading. One down, five more to go! I can only hope the rest go as smoothly!

Off to the hospital

Am off to the hospital in thirty minutes for the first of six iron infusions :( Got to have one a week for the next six weeks in a bid to sort out my anaemia in the vague hope that they'll go ahead with my hip replacement when it's sorted!
Have no idea how they do it or how long it takes but i'm definitely not looking forward to it. Keep your fingers crossed it doesn't take too long or hurt - i'm such a baby when it comes to needles!

Hopefully this will work, if you click the following words, the dress it should take you to a pic of the delightful dress i may be wearing at my sister's wedding in September, but not that colour! Try to imagine the skirt part a deep chestnutty brown sort of colour! This is the big wedding that i'm dreading, i'm thinking though that with that dress, i'm not going to be forced to wear a hat! So it could be good, i hate dresses :)

Well, here i am folks!! This could take some getting used to, but hopefully it's going to be a whole lot more reliable than the other place! Will play about with a few things, see if i can figure out exactly what you're meant to do with the technical bits and that! If it all disappears, you know i've done something horribly wrong :) First thing i'll try and manage is how to add the link bits - this could be a long night!
